I had an opportunity to answer some questions for LifetimeTV.com, which were just a lot of fun!
Hometown:
I was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but live in Grand Haven, Michigan, a picturesque tourist community on the shores of Lake Michigan, which I knew was home the minute I saw it.
Best part of being a mom:
The endlessly funny, naughty, cute things my kids do daily, along with an understanding that everything they say, mess up or break is given to me as a special gift from God to make me laugh, cry, and love in new and more profound ways every day.
Favorite Wuvits design:
Faith Hope & Love, or the pink ribbon inspired design. I remember when I was working with Waverly to design this, they thought I was crazy. “Who would want a fabric with a pink breast cancer ribbon on it?” they said. I told them that their underestimation of me was what drove me on to greater successes daily.
Biggest inspiration:
My kids! Just trying to successfully “balance life with love,” to build and run my business and be a good mom at the same time, inspires me to see new ways of thinking and doing things every day.
Favorite book:
Mommy Millionaire! After that: favorite book at the moment: Extraordinary Knowing. Favorite children’s book: Good Night Moon. Favorite poetry: Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass. Love a good mystery and have to admit to being a fan of Sue Grafton. Can’t underestimate the importance of the Bible, because in business you learn right away, “there are no atheists in foxholes.”
An entrepreneur you admire most:
You have to admire Martha Stewart for being a self-made billionaire, who started out from modest beginnings and took herself from modeling to Wall Street, blazing a trail for other women to follow. To be honest with you though, I admire the start-up entrepreneurs I meet daily, who are taking that first courageous step upon their own journeys, facing down fear and risk to follow through on their hopes, dreams or aspirations.
Your motto/mantra:
“Embrace the Chaos.” Which means, accept things as they are—less than perfect, including yourself. You don’t have to have an impeccably clean or well-decorated house to be considered a successful woman or mother. In fact, at the end of the day, my measure of success is not how clean or well-decorated my house is, but how happy my kids are.
Hobbies:
I have to ride my bike every day for at least an hour. That and pulling weeds in my garden keeps me out of the therapist’s office.
Favorite fabric to work with:
100% cotton. The only fabric I work with.
Favorite way to unwind:
A glass of wine at the end of a long day helps. My masseuse takes stress out of me weekly, which keeps me keeping on.
Most beloved modern day invention:
My Treo phone. I’m addicted to it. I can’t imagine life without it. It’s become a natural extension of my right arm. I listen to my music on it, I check email from three accounts, pictures of my kids pop up when they call me, I get the weather, my appointments, all my contacts, my horoscope, and find my way to meetings as well as stores I want to shop it, where I show clerks coupons on it for 40% off shoes—what more could a girl want?
Next upcoming Green Daisy product to hit the marketplace:
An awesome home décor line, including sheets, towels, pillowcases and more!
Hi Kim,
Congratulations on the continued success!
